Creator portrait shot in studio – influencer marketing cost in India

Influencer pricing in India ranges from a free product to more than a crore, so "how much does influencer marketing cost?" needs a better question: which creators, how many, and what do you need them to do? Here's what the market looks like in 2026 and how we budget campaigns for D2C brands at Hotbox.

Per-Reel rates by creator tier

These are typical rates for one Instagram Reel with organic posting only, based on upGrowth's 2026 pricing study and what we see when we negotiate:

  • Nano (1K–10K followers): ₹2,000–₹8,000, often barter (free product) for smaller creators.

  • Micro (10K–100K): ₹8,000–₹80,000.

  • Mid-tier (100K–500K): ₹50,000–₹3.5 lakh.

  • Macro (500K–2M): ₹2–12 lakh.

  • Celebrity / mega (2M+): ₹8 lakh to well over ₹1 crore per campaign.

Within each tier, the spread is huge. A fashion micro-creator in Delhi with 60K highly engaged followers can charge more than a meme page with 300K.

What pushes the price up

  • Usage rights. If you want to run the creator's Reel as a paid ad on your account (whitelisting), expect to pay 60–120% more.

  • Exclusivity. Asking a beauty creator not to work with competing brands for 3 months can double or triple the quote.

  • Format. A YouTube integration typically costs 2–4x a Reel; a dedicated review video costs more still.

  • Production. If the creator has to travel, hire a shooter or use a studio, that's added to the fee.

  • Niche. Finance, tech and parenting creators charge a premium; regional-language creators are often 40–60% cheaper with excellent engagement.

The costs brands forget to budget

  • Product seeding: sending products to 50–100 creators can cost ₹25,000–₹2 lakh in stock.

  • Tax: under Indian tax rules, TDS can apply to products creators keep above a threshold. Check the current provision with your CA.

  • Disclosure: ASCI guidelines require paid or gifted posts to be clearly labelled (#ad, #collab). Budget a brief and an approval step so this isn't missed.

  • Management time: shortlisting, negotiating, briefing, chasing and reporting on 20 creators is a part-time job.

A realistic first campaign for a D2C brand

For most D2C brands we recommend starting with many smaller creators rather than one big name. A sensible first campaign looks like:

  1. 10–15 micro creators in your exact niche (₹1.5–₹4 lakh total).

  2. 30–50 nano creators on barter or small fees for volume and UGC-style content.

  3. Whitelisting rights on the top 3–5 videos so you can run them as ads once you know what works.

  4. A dedicated landing page and discount code per creator so you can measure sales, not just views.

That puts a first campaign at roughly ₹2.5–₹6 lakh including product and management. Smaller tests are possible, but you won't learn much from three posts.

Influencer or UGC?

If you mainly need authentic-looking video for ads, you may not need a creator's audience at all. Paying creators only to make content (UGC) is often cheaper and easier to scale. I've broken down the difference in UGC vs influencer content.
